About

After the period of the World War 2 in 1946, Bill Ruger rented a space in a barn in Southport, Connecticut, where he formed the Ruger Corporation. He started this company with the goal of manufacturing sporting firearms. During the very beginning of the Ruger, an article about this new company in the American Rifleman brought in the first orders. Soon after that, the Southport post office had to expand just in order to handle the mail that the Ruger company was receiving.

What You Didn’t Know About Ruger

After the period of the World War 2 in 1946, Bill Ruger rented a space in a barn in Southport, Connecticut, where he formed the Ruger Corporation. He started this company with the goal of manufacturing sporting firearms. During the very beginning of the Ruger, an article about this new company in the American Rifleman brought in the first orders.

Soon after that, the Southport post office had to expand just in order to handle the mail that the Ruger company was receiving. Sturm and Ruger were able to repay the Sturm family's 50,000$ investment within a year, what was the last money that the company ever borrowed. His credo was "Arms Makers for Responsible Sportsmen." He was producing firearms not only for target shooters and hunters, but for folks who purchased guns for their esthetics and precision.

The Ruger’s stock has been publicly traded since 1969 and they began trading on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker symbol of "RGR" as well. This company has made a profit every year of its existence. The Ruger has manufactured over 20 million firearms for both sporting and also law enforcement use.
