Its cartridge was introduced together with the Luger semi-automatic pistol which were first adopted in 1904 by the German Navy. This cartridge has since the year been adopted by the military of almost each non-Communist power. It has become practically the most popular and widely-used handgun cartridge worldwide. The 9mm cartridge has a bit more power than the .38 Special, though falls well short of the .357 Magnum. The P89 model is an upgraded version of the P85 MKII which was introduced with a large number of new features, such as the DAO.
