About Ruger SR40

The SR40 is a semi-automatic pistol from the Ruger's production. First striker-fired pistols have a very slender profile, features such as a polymer frame with a picatinny rail, an internal trigger bar interlock and striker blocker, a reversible backstrap that may be flat or arched, to accommodate grip preferences, trigger safety and magazine disconnect.

The 'semi-double-action' trigger is more a single-action trigger, as it is not able to cock the pistol on its own. In this aspect its trigger action is similar to the Glock, S&W M&P or Springfield XD. This cartridge was developed as a joint venture between Smith & Wesson and Winchester. It was an attempt to create a cartridge with the same power as the 10mm Norma round which the FBI had just started using, however in a shorter case.

The shorter cartridge would facilitate accuracy and also allow use of a smaller, but more comfortable grip frame. The .40 S&W has become the cartridge of choice for many law enforcement agencies in the US. The SR40 model is a recoil operated pistol which is chambered in .40 S&W ammunition. In general, it’s easier to conceal smaller pistols but, on the other side, those smaller pistols may be more difficult to handle. The SR40 does not belong to pistols of smaller size, however many shooters carry this pistol concealed. The SR40 has quite powerful ammunition that may have greater stopping power. Design and construction of this pistol represents the next step in striker-fired pistols from the Ruger.
